Saeklon Taem (Cyclone Time) is a book I illustrated and designed just after Cyclone Pam hit Vanuatu. It was during a workshop organized by Unicef (led by post traumatic workshop leader Barbara Kolucki) with the Vanuatu Ministry of Education and Ministry of Justice. The book is silent although visually very noisy, just as we were when the cat 5 cyclone hit us.
It takes its inspiration from a real story : On the island of Mataso, after all houses had been destroyed, a whole village decided to gather and make a human shelter. Putting the children and elderly in the center, then the mothers and the youngest men surrounding them. They stood all as One through the terrifying winds and survived one of the most powerful cyclone in our History.
